The Media Landscape (MeLa) Lab is a multi-university group of researchers that collaborate on problems related to online news and multimedia. Our work ranges from studies of unsafe media platforms to disinformation in news articles. The goal of the lab is to provide an understanding of malicious information behavior and production across the web and to provide trusted, innovative interventions to disinformation spread. From a technical perspective, our methods range widely from machine learning to crowdsourced HCI experiments to qualitative hypothesis development. Our work has been published in venues such as ICWSM, ACM Hypertext, and Computers in Human Behavior Reports, and covered in media such as Mashable and Business Insider.
